Multiverse in Indian Cosmology: The Question of Aliens Travel Across Worlds, Realms and to Earth

Extraterrestrial travel and the question of aliens

This is the part that usually gets everyone hooked.

The idea that beings from beyond Earth may be visiting us has remained a persistent question across generations.

Are they out there?

Have they visited us before?

If they do visit, will they be benevolent or hostile?

How would it affect humanity?

Is there any historical evidence?

And of course, what about Area 51?

Anyone familiar with contemporary alien discourse will recognize this line of questioning.

Description in Ancient Indian Text

Ancient Indian texts speak extensively about travel across worlds and realms. But this travel does not fit neatly into our modern idea of spaceships and aliens.

Broadly, such travel happens in two main modes.

Mode one: highly evolved astral beings

Highly evolved astral beings travel by demanifesting and remanifesting their bodies.

Here, consciousness itself relocates. Once it reaches a different loka, a form appropriate to that realm is manifested. No vehicle is needed because mastery over form has already been attained.

Mode two: astral beings without full siddhi

Astral beings who are less evolved, those who have not yet attained the siddhi of complete form mastery, travel differently.

They generate a protected vibrational enclosure around themselves. This enclosure allows them to move across differing vibrational fields within the Brahmanda without losing structural integrity.

Both the formation of this enclosure and the movement itself are intent-driven, which is consistent with how astral realms operate.

So far, we have discussed astral beings. But what about biological life in other dwipas within Bhu-loka?

Biological Beings From Other Dwipas

Let us consider biological beings who live in other dwipas within Bhu-loka.

Travel within their own vibrational bandwidth is possible using the type of material and technology available in their realm. But to travel to Earth, they would have to cross an inter-realm boundary, and this is where the real difficulty begins.

Why inter-dwipa travel is extremely difficult

Bhu-loka is divided into seven sub-realms, each with its own vibrational bandwidth. Matter in these realms would differ fundamentally, even at atomic and subatomic levels, because it arises from different guna configurations.

To put it simply, the periodic table of elements that applies to Earth would not necessarily apply to other realms. Their material composition is entirely different due to variations in the gunas.

Because of this, matter from one realm cannot easily survive in another. Managing vibrational mismatch is relatively easier at the astral level, but at the level of gross matter, it becomes extremely challenging.

So where does that leave us?

It makes such physical travel highly unlikely.

Dwipas dominated by sattvik energy would likely prioritize inner evolution and astral travel.

Those dominated by tamasic energy would remain largely survival-oriented, with reduced clarity and initiative, making inter-realm exploration unlikely.

Importantly, ancient Indian scriptures do not mention any beings from other dwipas visiting Earth at all.

Then who is most likely to travel?

Ironically, the most likely candidates are Earthlings themselves.

Humans carry a mix of sattvik and tamasic qualities, along with strong rajasic energy. This combination creates a constant urge to explore, experiment, and travel. It is quite possible that humans will travel to other planets within our own realm and perhaps return.

That is the most plausible “physical beings in physical flying vehicles” scenario.

Yet, even here, the Puranas and Itihasas remain completely silent. There is no mention of such travel.

Airtravel by Vimana ?

Are Vimana flying machines?

Throughout various texts, the word vimana is sometimes used in the context of travel and sometimes to describe a specially enclosed space where beings enter to have a particular kind of experience.

Over time, this word has been reinterpreted to mean a flying vehicle in modern language.

However, the original meaning of vimana is about measuring out, marking boundaries, and setting something apart. It refers to a distinct, enclosed domain, not necessarily something that moves.

Movement may occur, but it is not the defining feature.

In the context of astral travel, it refers to a vibrationally enclosed domain, not a mechanical spacecraft.

Exception:

One exception is the Pushpaka Vimana mentioned in the Ramayana. It originally belonged to Kubera and was later taken from him by Ravana. Rama used the Pushpaka Vimana only once, for the journey home from Lanka to Ayodhya after winning the war. Once its purpose was fulfilled, he returned it to its rightful owner, Kubera.

Unlike other forms of travel described in the texts, this Vimana was not projected by Kubera as a vibrationally enclosed space. It was created by Brahma and gifted to him. This suggests a form of matter–consciousness integrated technology. However, it appears to have operated only within the Earth’s atmosphere.

There are a few other such exceptions mentioned. However, they all appear to be divinely manifested modes of travel, not physically constructed vehicles like automobiles or airplanes as we understand them today.

They appear to represent a different kind of technology, grounded in the manipulation of vibration rather than mechanical engineering. Such vehicles could be manifested or withdrawn at the will of their creator.

In that sense, they function more as consciousness-based technologies than as machines constructed from physical materials.

What About Alien and UFO sightings?

Such reports cannot be explained through a single lens. Different situations call for different explanations.

A possible scenario

If someone witnesses an unidentified luminous object in the sky, and it is clearly not a natural phenomenon such as a falling star or meteoroid, one possibility is that it may be an astral being.

Certain astral entities are capable of appearing as concentrated light. Depending on the loka from which they originate, they may be benevolent or malevolent.

A less favourable scenario

Some reported experiences involve abduction narratives, apparitions manifesting inside homes, or accounts of physical procedures taking place without any material evidence. In such cases, the explanation may lie not in physical intervention, but in lower astral influence.

Lower astral entities are described as having the ability to hypnotise or override the mind. In that altered state, they can project impressions, suggestions, and fully immersive experiences.

If the episode is brief, it may be a temporary hallucination induced by short-term influence. If the experience is prolonged, particularly during or after intoxication, it is possible that such entities have gained access to the individual’s astral body. This can result in extended or recurring hallucinations.

When multiple individuals report highly similar experiences, it may indicate that similar groups of entities are interacting with them at the astral level.

Sustained influence becomes more likely when the astral body is weakened. This weakness may arise from emotional trauma, chronic illness, energetic depletion, addiction, or karmic vulnerabilities carried forward from previous births.

Other Possibilities

It must also be acknowledged that some sightings may relate to classified technological testing unknown to the public.

There also seems to be a pattern of intentional or unintentional misinformation.

A common pattern

In many cases, intense alien or abduction experiences are associated with substances that reduce prana and foster dependency.

When prana is weakened, the astral body becomes more susceptible to attachment. Such attachment may persist even after the substance has left the physical system.

Active and vivid hallucinations often depend on continued substance use. At other times, the influence may manifest not visually but as intrusive thought patterns. This can lead to mental instability, emotional volatility, depression, identity confusion, hormonal imbalance, or addictive behaviors.

Through such access, lower astral entities may attempt to express their baser tendencies through the human host. These tendencies are often described in traditional language as demonic or unnatural.

To the person experiencing it, some of these episodes may feel like extraterrestrial experimentation. In other instances, they may simply reflect lower astral interactions rather than physical alien contact.

A spiritual development point to Note:

It is important to remember that karmic law operates with precise balance. Actions that move away from dharma generate corresponding effects. Cause and effect unfold inevitably, and the individual must eventually restore balance through corrective choices and conscious living. Growth requires that lessons be understood and integrated.

There is a common belief that identifying oneself purely as a victim of circumstance or abuse removes personal responsibility. Spiritual law does not operate in that way. Spiritual evolution calls for accountability and the conscious strengthening of one’s personality and energy field.

As inner strength develops, it generates a magnetic force that naturally acts as protection. A refined and elevated energy field reduces susceptibility to lower influences and destabilizing situations.

The path of growth is not about remaining in victim consciousness. It is about taking responsibility for one’s energy, cultivating awareness, and engaging in disciplined spiritual practice. Through this process, one builds a protective magnetic field that guards against lower entities and habits that diminish consciousness.

Traditional understanding

Ayurveda classifies intoxicating substances as highly toxic in nature. Their use is advised only under medical supervision, if at all. Recreational use of addictive substances is strongly discouraged and, in many cases, clearly forbidden.

All spiritual masters caution against the use of such substances. In very rare cases, certain lineages may use specific substances, but only in highly controlled conditions and in a vibrationally modified form. The Guru understands how to neutralize the addictive influence. Without this knowledge, the risk is extremely high.

Even under supervision, such practices remain dangerous. For most seekers, complete abstinence is the wiser path.

Normal spiritual disciplines are more than sufficient to bring about the inner evolution a sincere aspirant seeks.

Absence of UFO-type narratives in Indian cosmology

Indian cosmology provides extraordinarily detailed descriptions of lokas, dwipas, and the many types of beings that inhabit these realms. If encounters with aliens or UFO-like events had occurred, such a comprehensive system would almost certainly have recorded them.

If not in the Puranas, then at least in the Itihasas. Yet both major epics, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, do not point to any such incidents.

This absence is not accidental. In a system that records even subtle metaphysical events, such silence becomes meaningful.

Multiple human-like intelligent species on Earth

Interestingly, the texts do describe multiple intelligent human-like species, but not in the way modern alien discourse imagines. They mention around seven or eight such species inhabiting Earth. Although these beings originate from other lokas, they incarnate on Earth.

At times they appear almost human, and at other times slightly different. The differences are occasionally physical, such as height or strength, but more often they lie in mental makeup and behavior rather than outward form.

These species require high levels of pranic energy to incarnate on Earth. As the Yugas progress from Satya Yuga to Treta Yuga and then to Dwapara Yuga, this supportive pranic environment gradually diminishes.

By the time Kali Yuga arrives, these species largely disappear from Earth.

Following this pattern, as we now move deeper into Dwapara Yuga, it is likely that some of these species may begin incarnating on Earth once again.

Excerpt from Autobiography of Yogi on Astral Travel

A direct experiential account of astral materialization can be found in Autobiography of a Yogi:

“A nebulous light was rapidly floating over the Ganges; the strange luminescence was reflected in the opaque waters. It approached nearer and nearer until, with a blinding flash, it appeared by the side of Mataji and condensed itself instantly into the human form of Lahiri Mahasaya. He bowed humbly at the feet of the woman saint.

“Before I had recovered from my bewilderment, I was further wonder- struck to behold a circling mass of mystical light traveling in the sky. Descending swiftly, the flaming whirlpool neared our group and materialized itself into the body of a beautiful youth who, I understood at once, was Babaji. He looked like Lahiri Mahasaya, the only difference being that Babaji appeared much younger, and had long, bright hair.

 – From the Chapter 33: Babaji, The Yogi-Christ Of Modern India

What is described here is not mechanical travel, but conscious materialization. These descriptions closely resemble the Purana accounts of luminous forms appearing, condensing, and dissolving. These are often described under the broad term “vimana.”

Within the framework of Indian cosmology, inter-realm movement is primarily conscious and vibrational, not mechanical and technological in the modern sense.

In Conclusion

When viewed through the lens of Indian cosmology, the modern alien narrative shifts at a fundamental level. The question is not simply whether aliens or spacecraft are possible. The deeper question is whether such beings, as imagined in the modern framework, are necessary for the evolution of human consciousness. Do they add value to that process, or do they distract from it?

The core engine of evolution on Earth is the dynamic tension between dharma and adharma. This tension arises from the interplay of the gunas. It is further intensified by the presence of astral entities from both higher and lower lokas, which influence human development in subtle ways.

The ancient texts already describe in detail the various types of extra-terrestrial beings that exist, their nature, and the modes through which they travel.

We may be missing the point here by expecting the extraterrestrial to be limited only to physically manifested beings.

When the Brahmanda is understood as a whole, only a minuscule portion of it is the physical material world. The rest is largely astral and richly populated with astral beings.

In that context, the focus naturally shifts toward these astral extraterrestrial intelligences rather than toward physical interplanetary visitors.

Given this depth of description, the silence regarding physical beings from other planets or systems visiting Earth becomes significant. If physical extraterrestrial intervention were central to a jiva’s (soul’s) evolution, it would likely appear within that same descriptive framework.

The texts also do not confine this evolutionary journey to a single Brahmanda. They expand the scope to multiple Brahmandas, each a complete cosmic system in which consciousness continues its progression.

If one Brahmanda already contains such layered complexity, what then is the role of many?

To understand that, we must move beyond the question of aliens within our realm and begin examining the structure of the multiverse itself.
